PROCTORED EXAMS

PROCTORED EXAMS

Some distance education courses require students to take proctored exams. A proctored exam is taken off-campus and is supervised, just as it would be for a course taken on campus. Simply stated, a proctor supervises a student's exam. It is up to each student to find a qualified proctor.

Typically, a student schedules the exam with a proctor, and the exam is sent to the proctor to administer. The proctor then returns the completed exam to the instructor to grade. Generally, proctors do not charge for this service. In all cases the campus distance education center or academic department offering the course must approve of the choice of proctor.

Acceptable proctors for most courses include:

• College Principals.

• directors of educational services at universities, correctional institutions, or the armed services;

• delegated officials of a university testing center.

• Military officials at least 2 ranks above the student.

If you are taking an exam outside the United States, you may also request as your proctor the local director of educational services or an officer of the U.S. embassy or consulate.

In order to help us support students, staff, and faculty, please keep the following in mind:

It is the responsibility of the admission center head to have the exam at the ASC once the student has made the appropriate arrangements; it is the responsibility of the student to schedule the exam before the date that it is to be given.

It is the responsibility of the admission center head to indicate the student(s) who will be taking the assessment by labeling each exam or providing a list of students who will be taking the exam along with the exact number of copies of the exam. The Academic Support Center does not make copies of exams in an effort to maintain academic integrity of assessments. Exams should be dropped off in a sealed envelope; exams should not be emailed or faxed.

It is the responsibility of the admission center head to indicate what tools/items are allowed / not allowed for the exam (calculator etc.); it is the responsibility of the student to arrive on time for the exam, with the allowed and necessary materials.
